Year 9 ESOL students explore Chelsea Sugar Factory
Posted on July 15, 2025
Year 9 ESOL students from Macleans College recently visited the Chelsea Sugar Factory, enjoying a field trip that was both educational and engaging.
During the visit, students learnt about the factory’s rich history and the sugar production process - from raw sugar to the finished product. They observed equipment used to transport raw sugar into the factory and gained insight into operations within a large-scale production site.
A highlight of the trip was the interactive room, where students explored hands-on exhibits. This experience sparked curiosity and enhanced their understanding in a fun, memorable way.
The day concluded with a baking session, where students, guided by staff, learnt new skills and created their own sweet treats - a practical and enjoyable end to the excursion.
Thank you to Mrs Restauro and Mrs Shipway for organising the trip and to Jane and the team at Chelsea Bay for their warm welcome and informative guidance.
Although the visit was brief, it left a lasting impression. Students returned to school inspired, curious and full of sweet memories.
