From plan to profit: Year 9 Enterprise Studies students hold Market Day

Posted on July 16, 2025

Two Year 9 Enterprise Studies classes presented their food and beverage creations to an eager Macleans College crowd during lunchtime.

Market Day was the culmination of a term-long project. Students developed a formal business plan, which included a mission statement, SMART objectives, a SWOT analysis, market research and a financial plan. They also took a hands-on approach - brainstorming ideas, creating recipes, sourcing ingredients and managing production before bringing their products to market.

In addition to product development, students organised promotional efforts for both the event and their individual offerings. They shared announcements at school and House assemblies and displayed posters throughout the whānau Houses.

Throughout the experience, students gained insight into entrepreneurship and the risks involved in pursuing profit. While many teams made a profit, others encountered valuable challenges and learning opportunities.

Overall, the day was a rewarding and engaging conclusion to a term of hard work.
