Adventure, teamwork and resilience were at the heart of the Macleans College Year 11 Challenge class’s final camp of the year.

Joined by six international students, the group ventured to the Waikato for an unforgettable outdoor experience that tested their endurance and strengthened their bonds.

Upon arrival, the students set up their bivouacs and prepared to spend the night immersed in the bush.  Braving insects, the cold and the challenges of sleeping outside, they embraced the spirit of adventure from the start.

Once the bivouacs were ready, the group began abseiling training.  They practiced first on flat ground, then on a steep bank, before many confidently descended a rock face - a rewarding test of courage and focus.

Later in the day, the students gathered firewood and were divided into groups to prepare dinner.  Using wood tinder, they built their own cooking fires and created meals over glowing embers.  After sharing food and stories, they settled into their bivouacs for the night.

The next morning, the camp concluded with a final challenge - constructing a rope bridge over a river.  The task required communication, problem-solving and teamwork to ensure everyone crossed safely without touching the water.

Throughout the camp, the boys demonstrated impressive resilience and cooperation, qualities that have defined their achievements throughout the year.
