Macleans College’s annual Gala Concert lit up the Due Drop Events Centre in Manukau earlier this month, drawing a near-capacity audience for a night of music, dance and celebration.

From powerful kapa haka to a rousing orchestral finale, the evening showcased the depth of talent within the college’s performing arts community.

The evening opened with a precise and energetic kapa haka performance - followed by a moving performance from the Chorale. Each transition flowed seamlessly, keeping the audience engaged throughout.

Highlights included the 2025 Small House Choir Champions, Kupe House, and the Wondering Out Loud Cabaret cast. Their performances were complemented by an outstanding dance item from the National Dance Challenge and Showquest teams.

The second half featured the Concert Band and Symphony Orchestra. The finale brought together the Symphony Orchestra and Chorale for Hans Zimmer’s Lion King Orchestral Suite, delivering a dramatic conclusion.

The concert closed on a lively note, with the audience joining in by clapping and stamping to Strauss’s Radetzky March.

The audience showed enthusiasm from start to finish, guided by the humour and charisma of Mr Davidson, who served as the evening’s host.
