Posted on September 23, 2025

The Macleans College golf team travelled to Wellington to compete in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Final and the New Zealand Age Group Championships.

At the Secondary Schools Finals, held at Shandon Golf Course, the team of captain Cherry Lee (Batten House), Samuel Ding (Upham) and Archie Thompson (Batten) faced a challenging opening day. They recovered strongly on day two, with Cherry’s even-par round standing out as a highlight. The team finished 10th overall in New Zealand - a result they can be proud of.

The excitement continued at the Age Group Championships, where Cherry, Samuel, Archie, Rory Gillion (Hillary) and Wianru Oosthuizen (Kupe) represented the school. Both Samuel and Archie progressed to the final cut, showcasing some excellent golf. Archie produced one of his best performances to date, carding four birdies on the front nine and finishing three under par. This secured third place in the Boys Under-19 category. Samuel followed closely behind with a two under par round, earning fourth place.

Macleans College takes great pride in these achievements. Securing third and fourth place in a national championship is an outstanding accomplishment. Congratulations to all the players for their skill, commitment and determination.
