Macleans College secure third place at EVolocity Regional Finals

Posted on November 05, 2025

Macleans College’s EVolocity team, the Akina Speed Stars, achieved an impressive third place overall at the EVolocity Auckland Regional Finals, held at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park.

Their success reflects two years of innovation and teamwork in designing and building an electric go-kart from scratch.

EVolocity is a national programme that empowers students to design, build and race electric vehicles.  It provides practical engineering and problem-solving experience while encouraging creativity and teamwork.

Competing against approximately 20 school teams from across Auckland, the Akina Speed Stars earned multiple podium finishes:

  • Third place overall
  • Third place in vehicle performance
  • Third place in efficiency
  • Third place in endurance

Their go-kart features a lightweight aluminium frame and a rear bike assembly, making use of existing gearing to enhance speed and performance.

Team members Dan Revans (Mansfield House), Ryan Stone (Hillary), Robert Wilde (Mansfield) and Mayah Clements (Mansfield) worked with dedication to bring their vehicle to life. Their commitment, innovation and perseverance were key to the team’s success.

A special thank you goes to mentor and parent supporter Andy Revans for his guidance and encouragement throughout the project.

Students interested in engineering, innovation and sustainable technology are encouraged to consider joining EVolocity as an extra-curricular activity next year.
