Teacher strike action - rostering home
Posted on September 12, 2025
Dear parents and caregivers,
Teacher strike action - rostering home
The PPTA has informed us of their planned strike action this coming week. The Macleans College Board have been advised by the PPTA that member teachers will refuse to teach certain year groups during the last week of term 3.
The union refer to this as “rostering home” and it involves teachers who are union members refusing to teach certain year levels on a given day.
Our Board has decided that we have an insufficient number of non-union staff to be able to provide safe and suitable relief cover to the students of the classes that union members are refusing to teach. This means that students will be rostered home on the day union members refuse to teach that year level.
Below is the schedule and the day on which each year level is to stay at home:
Monday 15 September - Years 12 and 13
Tuesday 16 September - Year 11
Wednesday 17 September - Year 10
Thursday 18 September - Year 9
Students of all other year levels are to come to school as normal and school examinations will continue as normal for NCEA students.
On the rostering home day, students who have inadequate safe supervision at home may come to school and study in the library.
Yours sincerely,
Steven Hargreaves
Principal
