World title-holding spoken word poet, Te Kahu Rolleston, returned to Macleans College in Term 3 to share his passion for language with more than 300 students across two presentations.

The first session was with a writing group. Students explored poetic forms and structures, creating their own interpretations of metaphorical language. Te Kahu shared his insights into the writing process and answered questions about poetry and spoken word.

During the second presentation, delivered to a larger audience, Te Kahu presented some of his most moving works. These included his renowned Matariki poem and his reflections on the grounding of the MV Rena container ship on the Astrolabe Reef, near his hometown of Tauranga.

Students responded warmly to his relaxed style, sharp wordcraft and positive approach to poetry. Many showed their appreciation by lining up for autographs, extending all the way to the car park - a clear sign that his visit left a lasting impression.
