Two Macleans College students were among the standout winners at the 2025 Howick Sports Awards, held at the Howick Pakuranga Community Sports Centre.
Year 10 student Decca Ready (Mansfield House) and Year 12 student Dwayne Li (Batten) were recognised for their remarkable achievements on the national and international stage.
Junior Sportswoman of the Year - Decca Ready
Decca was named the 2025 Junior Sportswoman of the Year.
Earlier this year, Decca made New Zealand sporting history by becoming the first New Zealander to win a medal at the X Games, earning bronze in the Women’s Street competition - one of the world’s most prestigious action-sports events.
Decca continues to dominate the national skateboarding scene, holding the Women’s Street title at the New Zealand Skateboarding Nationals for three consecutive years. She also claimed victories at both the New Zealand Secondary Schools Skateboarding Championships and NZ X Air.
Beyond competition, Decca shares her passion for the sport by mentoring younger skaters at local facilities, inspiring the next generation of girls in skateboarding.
Junior Sportsman of the Year - Dwayne Li
Dwayne received the 2025 Junior Sportsman of the Year award.
He is the first New Zealander to win an International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix (JGP) event and qualify for a ISU JGP final.
He concluded the 2024 figure skating season ranked fourth in the world on the Junior Grand Prix circuit - an exceptional result against elite international competitors.
Training at Paradice Botany, Dwayne is admired for his humility and dedication. His bronze medal at the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games stands as a testament to his skill, perseverance and commitment to his sport.
