Behind the magic: Macleans College students explore Wētā Workshop Unleashed

The world of film-making came alive for Macleans College AS and A Level Design and Technology students during their visit to Wētā Workshop Unleashed at Auckland’s SkyCity.
This immersive journey behind the scenes of a five-time Academy Award-winning studio offered an unforgettable blend of creativity, craftsmanship and inspiration.
The students explored three distinct film genres, gaining hands-on experience with props, prosthetics and digital effects. They walked through a detailed ‘bigature’ fantasy landscape model and participated in a modelling workshop, where they crafted their own miniature landscapes.
They saw first-hand the countless hours, meticulous detail and creative passion that go into bringing cinematic worlds to life. The experience left them inspired, equipping them with fresh skills and ideas to apply in their final design models for their portfolios.
