Posted on September 18, 2025

For the first time in six years, the Macleans College Chorale competed at the Big Sing Finale.

The Chorale travelled to Dunedin as one of 24 choirs selected for the 2025 finale, held at the Dunedin Town Hall. The week was filled with music, performance and new experiences.

Their trip began with a performance at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery, followed by a rehearsal at St Paul’s Cathedral. The programme included three days of singing, listening to other choirs and even an ice skating session. Each choir performed two recitals, showcasing diverse styles and talents.

The Chorale’s first recital featured Pure Imagination, arranged by Matthew D. Nielsen, Sicut Cervus by Palestrina and Tate Le Fia Manatua, arranged by Steven Rapana. Their second recital included Voice of Oceans by Daniel Bondaczuk, accompanied by pianist Selina Wang (Upham House) and organist Soomin Kim, and Hope by Zachary J Moore, with Mr Harrison on the djembe.

The week concluded with Saturday’s gala concert. The Chorale received a standing ovation from the full house and was awarded silver for their outstanding performances.
