Two Macleans College teams excelled at the North Island Middle School Ethics Olympiad, earning a silver medal and a fourth place honourable mention.

The Macleans College (Lime) team has now qualified for the international finals in February.

Throughout the day, Year 9 and 10 students took part in structured discussions on ethical issues with teams from across the country.  They collaborated with their counterparts and considered a range of viewpoints.

Students demonstrated strong critical thinking as they explored questions such as: Should artists’ ethics affect our artistic judgements?  Can we be cruel to non-existent video game characters? How should armies treat civilians who supply intelligence in war?

The team will continue preparing over the summer ahead of competing against schools from Oceania, Asia and America in the finals.

Teams:

Macleans College (Lime) team: Archie Vivash (Hillary House), Robbie Ge (Upham), Emily Brown (Te Kanawa), Bianca Hu (Mansfield) and Dihen Karunatillake (Snell).

Macleans College (Aqua) team: Jhankriti (Batten), Misaki Nakanishi (Mansfield), Joshua Hope (Snell), Evan Ling (Mansfield) and Aagneyaa Sudhakar (Rutherford).
