Macleans College heads to nationals after standout Showquest performance

Posted on July 14, 2025

A group of 41 students from Macleans College delivered a powerful and moving performance at the Showquest regional competition in Tāmaki Makaurau. Their piece captivated both the audience and the judging panel.

Titled Sonder, the performance explored the realisation that every person encountered in life carries a story as rich and complex as one’s own. The narrative followed Sara, a young businesswomen, as she learnt to look beyond her own experiences and connect with the lives of others.

The piece was brought to life through compelling and impactful dance, striking visuals, live singing and original lighting design - showcasing the incredible depth of talent among Macleans College students.

The team was expertly led by senior student leaders Amber Thompson (Kupe House), Charlotte Radford (Hillary), Chloe Tan (Snell) and Leana Ferguson (Batten), who worked tirelessly alongside their peers to bring this ambitious concept to life. The performance included not only dancers and singers, but also student lighting designers and students specifically selected to assist with intricate lifts, demonstrating a true collaborative effort across disciplines.

In a highly competitive field, the judges were so impressed that they deliberated for over 40 minutes before reaching a decision. Macleans College was awarded second place and earned a spot in the Showquest National Final.

The national round will take place on 10 September via digital submission. Macleans College extends its best wishes to the team - in what will be a very competitive final round.

Congratulations to all involved in this outstanding achievement. Your creativity, commitment and teamwork embody the spirit and values of Macleans College.
