Rutherford House strengthens partnership with Hato Hone St John

Rutherford House recently welcomed special guests from its House charity, Hato Hone St John, for an engaging and informative visit.

The occasion offered students a rare, hands-on look into the life-saving work the organisation carries out across New Zealand.

During lunchtime, Stephen Robinson and Lee-Anne Gillum from Hato Hone St John arrived with an ambulance and delivered an interactive demonstration.  They spoke about the charity’s vital role in the community - from emergency medical response to first aid training, community programmes and healthcare support at major events.

Students explored the ambulance and gained insight into the responsibilities of ambulance officers.  They examined the equipment on board, including first aid tools and the stretcher, which some students experienced being transported on - a unique glimpse into the realities of frontline healthcare.

This year alone, Rutherford House has proudly donated $9,000 to Hato Hone St John, raised through events such as Valentine’s Day roses, the House fundraising drive and the Atomic Kiwi Carnival.

The visit deepened students’ understanding of the organisation they support and strengthened the connection between Rutherford House and Hato Hone St John.  It also highlighted the critical need for more paramedics, officers and volunteers in the healthcare sector.

Students expressed pride in supporting such an essential service - with many inspired to consider future pathways in healthcare and community service.
