Outstanding results for Macleans College at Auckland Mathex

Posted on September 08, 2025

Two Year 9 and two Year 10 teams from Macleans College competed in the annual Auckland Mathematical Association Mathex competition at the Barfoot and Thompson Stadium in Kohimarama.

The 2025 competition proved to be one of Macleans College’s strongest performances to date. Every result was closely contested, with victories decided by only seconds.

The Year 9 A team secured first place, finishing just 66 seconds ahead of Rangitoto College. Soon after, the Macleans College B team claimed third place, crossing the line two minutes later. Both teams achieved the maximum score of 100 points, within 15 minutes and under. By comparison, most schools had not completed all questions even after 30 minutes.

The Year 10 teams faced an even tighter contest. Sancta Maria College claimed first place, finishing just six seconds ahead of Macleans College A, who secured second place. Macleans College B followed with a strong performance to take third. By the end of the evening, Macleans College was the only school where every competitor was part of a winning team.

Special thanks are extended to Ms Sutanto and Mr Fonseka, and the entire 2025 Mathex Executive for their dedicated leadership and guidance in preparing the teams.
