Official opening of the covered courts
Posted on May 29, 2025
Macleans College has officially opened the new covered courts, located beside Upham House.
The opening ceremony took place at dawn and featured a traditional Māori blessing.
Former student Sean Wilkie (Mansfield House 2014 - 2018) led the proceedings with a karakia and waiata, accompanied by members of the Macleans College Kapa Haka group. Principal Mr Hargreaves marked the occasion by cutting the ribbon to formally open the facility.
The facility offers an all-weather space for Physical Education classes, especially when the gymnasium is at capacity. It is also equipped with floodlights, allowing extra-curricular teams to train before and after school.
The naming process for the new covered courts is underway. Several options are currently being considered by the school community.
