Community, culture and celebration at Night of Intercultural 2025

Posted on September 24, 2025

The Colin Prentice Auditorium came alive with colour, rhythm and energy as Macleans College hosted its highly anticipated Night of Intercultural 2025.

Across two sold-out evenings, audiences were swept into a celebration of dance, music and cultural expression that highlighted the talent and diversity of the school community.

The evening began with a heartfelt karakia led by Head Boy Oscar Stewart (Upham House), setting the tone of unity and celebration. From there, the stage was filled with outstanding performances, including Lion Dance, Punjabi Dance, Korean Traditional Dance, Bollywood Dance, Taekwondo, musical performances from Glenfern, lively J-pop Dance and the spirited Lankan Lionesses.

Between acts, the audience enjoyed interactive games that added extra excitement to the night. Musical chairs brought laughter and energy, while the raffle, featuring baskets of gourmet treats worth over $200, had the crowd on edge with anticipation. The event would not have been possible without the generous support of sponsors Poppies Howick, Odysseum Auckland, Gong Cha and FreshChoice Supermarkets.

The success of Night of Intercultural was due to the dedication of many. Student MCs Nishtha Prasad (Mansfield) and Syesha John (Kupe) brought warmth and humour to the evening - creating a fun and engaging atmosphere. The ICC executives - Cecilia Ma (Mansfield), Behrad Etemadipour (Batten), Hannah Liu (Rutherford) and Naomi Kwon (Snell) - worked hard to ensure the event ran smoothly, showcasing their strong leadership and teamwork.

Teachers also played a vital role, supporting cultural groups in the lead-up to the performances. Special thanks go to Mrs Hoshino, Dr Miles, Mr Davidson and all supervising staff whose guidance and commitment helped bring this memorable event to life.
