For the first time, 13 dancers from Macleans College represented the school at the prestigious National Dance Challenge (NDC), a nationwide event featuring 28 schools from across New Zealand.

Competing in the highly competitive contemporary dance section, the group delivered a powerful and emotive performance that stood out among some of the country’s top young talent. Their creativity, commitment and discipline were rewarded with a seventh place finish - an impressive result for their debut appearance.

In addition to their top-ten placement, the team earnt a coveted National Young Performers Award (NYPA) nomination. This honour qualifies them to compete in Palmerston North this October. The NYPA recognises outstanding performance and choreography, placing Macleans College among the leading secondary school dance programmes in the country.

The judging panel commended the dancers for their original choreography and praised the maturity and artistry evident in their performance. Special recognition goes to the student leaders Amber Thompson (Kupe House), Charlotte Radford (Hillary), Leana Ferguson (Batten) and Chloe Tan (Snell), whose vision and dedication played a key role in the group’s success.

Macleans College wishes the dancers all the best as they prepare to take the national stage.
