Posted on July 22, 2025
Year 13 Macleans College student Nathan Strachan (Rutherford House) has achieved remarkable success in rowing this year, earning national recognition for his dedication and performance.
At the 2025 Maadi Cup, held at Lake Karapiro, Nathan won the U18 boy’s single sculls title. This outstanding result led to his selection for the New Zealand U19 rowing team. He will now travel to Lithuania to compete in the World Rowing U19 Championships from 6 - 10 August. Nathan will compete in the men’s double scull event, alongside Harry Lightfoot from Wakatipu High School.
Nathan’s achievements are the result of intense commitment. His training routine includes early morning sessions, long hours on the water and the physical and mental demands of high-performance sport.
Macleans College rowing head coach, Allan Vester praised Nathan’s approach, saying, ‘Nathan has worked incredibly hard this past year, showing remarkable discipline and determination.’
Nathan is currently attending a six-week training camp at Lake Karapiro as he prepares for the world championships.
A givealittle fundraising page has been set up to help with the costs of travelling and competing internationally, should members of the school community wish to offer their support.
