Macleans College recently hosted the third annual Model East Asian Relations Conference (MEARC) in the Hillary House Commons.
This year’s event welcomed over 60 students from schools across New Zealand, representing a wide range of cultural backgrounds and experience levels. MEARC is a student-led initiative that offers secondary school students an opportunity to engage in structured debate on international affairs in East Asia.
The conference was coordinated by students Aaron Huang (Rutherford House), Nathan Rao (Rutherford) and Ellen Wu (Batten). A highlight of the day was a special video message from Macleans College alumna and National Party List Member of Parliament, Nancy Lu (Mansfield House 2001 - 2005). She spoke about the unique opportunities and experiences MEARC provides.
Throughout the event, participants developed their writing, speaking and research skills while gaining insight into East Asian international relations. The day concluded on a positive note, with students leaving inspired, better informed and connected through new friendships.
