Celebrating student filmmaking: Macademy Awards 2025

The Macademy Awards is the annual showcase of filmmaking at Macleans College. Nineteen student short films will be screened, and Macademy Awards presented for categories such as best director, script, and performance.
These awards are being determined by artists from the New Zealand film/TV industry with an Audience Choice Award voted for and awarded on the night.
The competition for places in this year’s line up has never been stronger. Congratulations to this year’s filmmakers:
- ‘Brake Line’ - Kumayl Essop (Te Kanawa House), Keeley Lambert (Rutherford) and Kate McKeen (Hillary)
- ‘Clue’ - Lara Alsaffar (Mansfield) and Jaime Hornblow (Kupe)
- ‘Croc’ - Maegan le Roux (Rutherford)
- ‘Disconnected’ - Cullen Campbell (Batten), Adriel Guanzon (Batten) and Luke Poppleton (Batten)
- ‘F.T.H.I.S.’ - Samantha Aarons (Batten), Maegan le Roux and Rana Smith (Batten)
- ‘Ghost Bridger’ - Allison Hu (Batten) and Ethan Sun (Te Kanawa)
- ‘Ghosted’ - Sophie Hazel (Mansfield), Elise Segedin (Rutherford) and Gordon Situ (Rutherford)
- ‘The Final Shot’ - Benjamin McLaren (Rutherford) and Hardus Oberholzer (Mansfield)
- ‘Just Hit Send’ - Jeni Nadarajah (Batten)
- ‘Killer Code’ - Isaac Uammuang (Kupe)
- ‘Last Year, Last Laugh’ - Michael Eccles (Snell), Sara Li (Upham) and Jessie Zhang (Upham)
- ‘Locked In’ - Dani Gonzalez Castro (Mansfield)
- ‘Looped’ - Karson Nikarone (Hillary) and Nigel Silva (Rutherford)
- ‘Mind Lock’ - Juntai Chen (Te Kanawa), Abraham Kilgour (Kupe), Emily Lou (Hillary), Jesse Liu (Mansfield), Amber Wang (Te Kanawa) and Tim Yu (Snell)
- ‘Momster’ - Lara Alsaffar, Malith Gamage (Batten), Sophie Hazel, Benjamin McLaren, Sabine Spiller (Mansfield) and Gordon Situ
- ‘The P Movie’ - Marianna Wang (Rutherford) and Jessie Zhang (Upham)
- ‘Reflection’ - Alerys Bodle (Hillary)
- ‘The Right Way’ - Sarah Meng (Batten)
- ‘Some Change’ - Isaac Uammuang

The Macademy Awards will take place at the Colin Prentice Auditorium on Thursday 16 October at 7.00 pm. Tickets have sold out.
The red carpet will be rolled out and the paparazzi will be there so you are encouraged to dress up!
