Kupe House rally behind kiwi conservation with $5,000 donation

Posted on November 25, 2025

Kupe House has turned learning into action, raising an impressive $5,000 to help protect one of New Zealand’s most treasured species - the kiwi.  Their year-long commitment to conservation reached a proud milestone as they proudly presented the donation to Save the Kiwi.

Save the Kiwi is a nonprofit organisation working with iwi, conservation groups, communities and the Department of Conservation to protect kiwi and restore safe habitats across New Zealand.

Paul O’Shea from Save the Kiwi attended a Kupe House assembly to receive the donation.  He also outlined how the funds will support vital conservation efforts.

Throughout the year, Kupe House students have learned about the endemic kiwi during House assemblies, gaining insight into the challenges facing this treasured taonga.  Their efforts culminated in the Atomic Kiwi Carnival, where each form class designed and ran a stall to raise money for the cause.

Special thanks go to Service Captains Kiera Borrill and Josiah Yoong and House Captains Syesha John and William Lockhart for leading this year’s fundraising.  Kupe House staff and students are also thanked for their time, energy and generosity in supporting such a meaningful initiative.
