The annual Macleans College Junior Speech Finals 2025

Posted on October 24, 2025

The Macleans College Year 9 and 10 persuasive speech finals were held in the second week of Term 4, showcasing months of preparation and practice.

This year, the Year 10 competition introduced an exciting new format. Instead of all students participating as part of the curriculum, students could choose to nominate and submit their speeches voluntarily.  This change encouraged genuine enthusiasm, creativity and greater depth in the topics presented.

The Year 9 finalists delivered an impressive standard of speeches - each one polished, persuasive and through-provoking - making the judge’s decision especially challenging.

Warm thanks are extended to the judges: Ms Rose and Mr Malani for Year 9, and Ms Heywood and Miss Wong for Year 10, for their time and thoughtful feedback in selecting winners from such a talented group of speakers.

Year 9:
First place - Elyse Robertson (Te Kanawa House)
Second place - Jeni Nadarajah (Batten)
Third place -  Tamsyn McCamish (Mansfield)

Year 10:
First place - Thomas McLaren (Rutherford)
Second place - Etienne Jiang  (Rutherford)
Third place - Daniel Kuang (Batten)
