Highly Commended at IHC Art Awards

A vivid depiction of wildlife has earned Year 10 Macleans College student Ryan Yan (Rutherford House) national recognition in the 2025 IHC Art Awards.

His piece, Orangutan in the Jungle, was awarded a Highly Commended from the judging panel.

The IHC Art Awards celebrate the creativity of artists with neurodiverse learning needs. They provide a platform for these artists to showcase their talent, share their perspectives and offer their work for sale. With almost 600 entries received this year, being recognised by the judges is a significant achievement. Ryan’s dedication, attention to detail and courage in submitting his work have been rewarded.

All students in the Learning Support class created original artworks, which were carefully framed and sent to Wellington for the exhibition. If sold, the full proceeds go directly to the artist.

This has been an insightful experience for the students, giving them a glimpse into the professional art world. The students are already planning their entries for next year’s competition.

The online gallery remains open to the public, with selected works still available for purchase. Follow this link to view the collection.
