Racing the clock: Adventure Racers navigate Great Forest Rogaine
Posted on August 11, 2025
Charging through thick forest, racing against the clock and navigating steep terrain - four Macleans College Adventure Race teams put their skills to the test in Rotorua’s Whakarewarewa Forest Park.
Equipped with maps, the students had three hours to navigate the forest and collect as many points as possible. They had to return to the finish line before time expired, with steep penalties for every 30 seconds they arrived late.
Competing in the Mixed Junior category, the Macleans College teams achieved impressive results:
Second place - Team Fast and the Frustrated
Emerson Strevens (Kupe House) and Luke Jardine (Snell).
Fourth place - Team Waypoint Worriers
Martina Beavis (Kupe), Cole McCabe (Snell), Owen Liu (Snell) and Matthew Wong (Snell).
Fifth place - Team The Lost Lads
Nathan Liang (Batten), Chris Robert (Snell), Beni Coomes (Batten) and Jayden McEvoy (Batten).
Thirteenth place - Team Directionally Dismayed
Ellen Wu (Batten), Kashmi Dukkan (Te Kanawa), Yin-Chu Chen (Te Kanawa) and Aimee Gao (Mansfield).
Many team members were new to forest navigation and unaccustomed to the challenging terrain. Despite this, all students showed great determination and completed the race completely spent - but proud of their efforts.
