Girls in Infrastructure event inspires students
Posted on July 17, 2025
Girls in Infrastructure is a pioneering initiative aimed at raising awareness and sparking interest among Year 12 and 13 girls in the diverse and rewarding career opportunities within the infrastructure sector.
A group of enthusiastic Macleans College students recently took part in a full day of activities organised by the Women’s Infrastructure Network. The day included a visit to the Stevenson Drury Quarry, offering hands-on experiences and industry insights.
Students explored and interacted with a range of machinery, including rollers, diggers, cement trucks and a nano tunnel boring machine. They also engaged in conversations with industry professionals who shared their experiences and discussed the variety of roles available in infrastructure. Meeting women from a wide range of specialties and backgrounds helped to inspire curiosity and deepen students’ understanding of the sector.
A highlight of the day was a guided tour of the Stevenson Drury Quarry, which has been producing aggregate for over 80 years.
Now in its third year, Girls in Infrastructure remains a valuable opportunity for students to explore potential careers and gain first-hand insight into an evolving and essential industry.
