The Macleans College Investment Club recently welcomed staff from Forsyth Barr, one of New Zealand’s leading investment advisory firms.

Students had the opportunity to hear from Kylie Mills, an alumnus of the Forsyth Barr Graduate Programme and now a full-time analyst.

Kylie shared her journey from university to a professional role in finance. She offered practical advice for students aspiring to enter the industry. Kylie highlighted the importance of developing a well-rounded profile, including leadership experience and extra-curricular involvement - qualities valued by firms such as Forsyth Barr.

She also outlined the day-to-day responsibilities of several finance roles she experienced during her graduate rotation. These included positions in investment banking and equity research. Her insights provided students with a realistic understanding of the finance sector and its many career paths.

The session concluded with a lively Q&A. Students asked about entering the field from high school, the recruitment process and how to stand out in a competitive market. Kylie was joined by Mark Steele (Mansfield House 1992 - 1996) and David Morgan, also from Forsyth Barr, who contributed additional insights and support during the discussion.

Their openness and expertise left a strong impression, inspiring students and equipping them with a clearer understanding of future opportunities in finance.
