Tradition and pride on display at 2025 Flag Pageant
Posted on July 24, 2025
To conclude International Languages Week, Macleans College held its annual Flag Pageant at the end of Term 2. The event celebrated the rich cultural diversity within the school community.
The school assembly transformed into a vibrant display of unity and heritage. Students and staff gathered to honour and showcase their cultural backgrounds.
This year, 83 flags were presented. Participants dressed in traditional attire and paraded to an instrumental version of the 1982 hit song Eye of the Tiger. As each flag was carried through the gymnasium, Head Prefects announced the corresponding countries, reinforcing a strong sense of global community and school pride.
The pageant concluded with the presentation of three significant flags. Deputy Head Boy Daniel Hulley (Batten House) carried the New Zealand flag, Elyse Robertson (Te Kanawa) held the Māori flag and Head Boy Oscar Stewart (Upham) bore the Macleans College flag. The assembly then joined together to sing the national anthem, God Defend New Zealand - a moment that stirred deep feelings of unity, pride and belonging across the school.
Macleans College extends sincere thanks to Ms Tuialii for her meticulous planning and work behind the scenes, which ensured the success of this meaningful event.
