Macleans College celebrates fencing success at home and abroad

Year 12 Macleans College student Larry Lin (Batten House) recently travelled to Sydney to compete in the Australian Fencing National Championships.
As the U20 New Zealand Men’s Foil champion, he represented New Zealand as a member of the Men’s Foil team - earning a bronze medal.
Closer to home, 15 Macleans College students took part in the Fencing North Secondary Schools Individual Competition. For several of them, it was their first competitive experience.
In the Open Men’s Foil category, nine of the 50 participants were from Macleans College. Maxwell Chen (Upham) delivered the strongest performance, finishing fifth after facing significantly older opponents.
In the Open Men’s Sabre event, six Macleans College students competed among 20 entrants. The school secured two medals - Harry Zhou (Upham) won silver and Jay Hwang (Mansfield) claimed bronze.
