Macleans College fencers participated in two notable events recently, both at home and abroad.

Matt Wang (Mansfield House) and Larry Lin (Batten) were selected to represent New Zealand at the World Junior Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. Held from 13 - 15 December 2024, Matt and Larry were members of the four-man Foil team. The event attracted over 200 participants from all over the world. Although neither were able to bring home a medal, both fencers greatly benefited from this overseas experience.

The North Island U20 Fencing Championships took place on Saturday 15 February. Three Macleans College fencers performed exceptionally well and received some commendable results.

In the Men’s Sabre, with a pool of 10 competitors, Harry Zhou (Upham) placed third.

In the Men’s Foil, also with 10 competitors, Larry Lin won the gold medal after a thrilling 15-14 victory. Matt Wang finished in fifth place.

The Macleans College fencing team now focus their attention on the upcoming U15 and U17 championships on 16 March.
