Throughout Term 2, students in the Macleans College Esports Club took part in national online competitions in Valorant and Marvel Rivals.

Thanks to their strong performances, the top Valorant team - Karanvir Kingra (Mansfield House), Ethan Yang (Hillary), Aditya Kavthekar (Mansfield), Jay Ye (Te Kanawa), Josh Stephens (Hillary), Hayden Tong-Ho (Mansfield) and Austin Yan (Snell) - were invited to the New Zealand High School Esports Clash, held at the University of Waikato.

Five members of the team travelled to Hamilton for the weekend event, entering as reigning champions from last year - they faced fierce competition from leading schools across the country.

The team made a strong start, defeating Western Heights High School. They then suffered a loss to Rangitoto College. Determined to fight back, the players eliminated Tauranga Boys College and Botany Downs Secondary College to keep their hopes alive.

In the semifinal, they faced Rangitoto College once again. Despite a valiant effort, the Macleans College team were eliminated, finishing third overall.

Although they missed out on retaining their champion title, each player was awarded a gaming headset in recognition of their achievement. The team left the event proud of their performance and sportsmanship, having represented the school with distinction.

Congratulations to Karanvir, Ethan, Aditya, Jay and Josh on their outstanding result.
