Endurance and effort pay off for Year 13 Physical Education students
Posted on July 22, 2025
Year 13 Physical Education students at Macleans College dedicated a term to preparing for their physical challenge.
Their first assessment was a 6km waterfront run at Mission Bay. With ideal weather and a fast track, students gave a strong effort to complete the course in good time.
The final challenge was the Tough Guy & Gal Challenge, held in Ngāruawāhia. This well-known mud run drew over 1,200 student participants. Set on steep farmland, the course included obstacles such as water slides, tunnels, swamp crossings and deep mud pits. Heavy rainfall in the lead-up made for particularly tough conditions.
Macleans College students delivered impressive results. The boys’ team placed second overall out of 35 teams, with Zac Donaldson (Te Kanawa House) finishing eighth, Joel MacGillivray (Te Kanawa) 15th and Craig Chigwinya (Batten) 25th. The girls’ team placed fourth out of 37 teams, with Greer Gilhooly (Kupe) finishing 10th, Theresa Cerny (Hillary) 18th and Jessica Hewetson (Rutherford) 20th.
Congratulations to all students for their commitment, resilience and outstanding performance in demanding conditions.
