Emerging Ethnic Leader award for Macleans College student
Posted on September 16, 2025
On Wednesday 3 September at the Waipuna Conference Centre, Macleans College student Valeria González Castro (Mansfield House) was recognised as an Emerging Ethnic Leader.
She was nominated by Ms Rojas, teacher in charge of the Latino Group, and proudly received a certificate.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Education, Aotearoa Resettled Community Coalition (ARCC) and the Korea-New Zealand Cultural Association. Its purpose was to celebrate students who demonstrate outstanding leadership. Schools from across Auckland attended, and guest speakers shared the message that true leadership means taking action in the face of fear, as that is when growth and learning begin.
Valeria has led the Macleans College Latino Group for the past two years, expanding its activities and encouraging greater participation. She has built a vibrant space that showcases the richness of Latin American culture, language, traditions and food.
Macleans College is proud of Valeria’s achievements and the positive impact she continues to make.
