Double gold for Macleans College sailors at Auckland Fleet Racing Championships
Posted on October 28, 2025
Eight talented sailors proudly represented Macleans College recently at the 74th Auckland Secondary Schools Fleet Racing Championships, held at Wakatere Boating Club, Narrow Neck Beach.
The morning began with calm conditions and no wind, keeping competitors ashore as they waited for the seabreeze to arrive. By midday, a steady 7-knot northerly breeze filled in, accompanied by a strong incoming tide, setting the stage for three competitive races.
Despite the delayed start, Macleans College sailors performed exceptionally well.
Lauchy Wills (Rutherford House), fresh from competing at the Optimist European Championships in Türkiye where he represented New Zealand, sailed superbly in the P Class fleet to win gold for Macleans College.
Holly Robson (Snell), currently overseas representing New Zealand at the Optimist Asian Championships in Oman, joined her sister Stella Robson (Snell) in the RS Feva fleet. Together, they sailed three tactical races and secured gold.
Congratulations to all Macleans College sailors for their skill and sportsmanship. Sincere thanks also go to the parents and supporters who assisted with loading, rigging and transporting the boats throughout the event.
