Macleans College Chorale exchanges harmony and friendship with Choralation
Posted on July 31, 2025
On Friday 18 July, the Macleans College Chorale visited the Westlake Girls High School Events Centre for a special choral exchange with Choralation, the mixed choir from Westlake Girls and Boys High Schools.
The event celebrated music, connection and excellence. Both choirs share a belief that strong storytelling and a deep connection to text are essential to powerful choral performance.
Macleans College Chorale and Choralation are both fortunate to work with acclaimed vocal consultant James Harrison, whose expert guidance continues to shape their sound and artistry. The exchange included collaborative performances of three pieces: Geistliches Lied by Brahms, the Guatemalan folk song La Monja Blanca arranged by David N. Childs and Rollo Dilworth’s uplifting gospel piece I Sing Because I’m Happy.
The day offered more than just music. Students took part in musical games, sightreading activities and informal performances. They built friendships and shared their passion for choral singing in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Macleans College Chorale extends sincere thanks to Choralation and their director, Fiona Wilson, for their warm hospitality. Both choirs look forward to meeting again at The Big Sing Finale in Dunedin this August - a chance to continue the music and strengthen the friendships formed.
