In an adventurous twist on classroom learning, Level 2 Business Studies students from Macleans College took their studies to new heights during a thrilling field trip to Tree Adventures in Woodhill Forest.
Far from the classroom, this hands-on experience was part of their Term 2 internal assessment, where students were tasked with investigating what motivates employees in a unique work environment like Tree Adventures. Tree Adventures, with its towering obstacle courses and adrenaline-pumping zip lines, proved to be the perfect case study.
Equipped with questions and curiosity, the students observed the staff in their daily roles - guiding climbers, ensuring safety protocols and encouraging hesitant participants.
To uncover the secrets behind this motivation, students conducted interviews and gathered insights directly from the staff. They discovered a wide range of motivating factors, including a love of the outdoors, a passion for helping others overcome fear and a strong sense of teamwork. Many staff members described their roles as more than just jobs, viewing them as opportunities to build confidence and create lasting memories for visitors.
Tree Adventures fosters a positive work environment through regular training, staff recognition and an emphasis on teamwork and communication. These practices contribute to high morale and ensure each visitor has a safe and enjoyable experience.
By the end of the day, students had gained more than just an adrenaline rush. They developed a clearer understanding of how motivation can flourish in physically demanding roles and how strong workplace culture enhances both employee satisfaction and customer experience.
