Posted on July 14, 2025
The Macleans College Investment Club was pleased to host Meysum Mehdi (Mansfield House 2016 - 2020), a Macleans College alumnus and founding member of the club.
Meysum shared insights from his professional journey, which has taken him from Macleans College to his current role as an Investment Analyst at Quayside Holdings, the investment arm of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council.
He reflected on his academic experience at the University of Auckland, where he completed a double major in Finance and Accounting. Meysum also emphasised the value of extra-curricular involvement, citing his participation in the university’s Investment Club and Case Club as instrumental to his development.
Meysum spoke about his time at Ernst & Young, where he worked as a mergers and acquisitions tax consultant. He then described the responsibilities of his current position at Quayside Holdings, highlighting the accountability involved in managing significant public funds. He also shared his long-term goal of transitioning to a more independent and globally mobile career.
To conclude, Meysum offered an overview of career pathways in the finance sector, outlining both the opportunities and challenges. He stressed the importance of mental health and a sustainable work-life balance. He also encouraged students to build financial literacy early and explained the power of compounding in achieving long-term financial independence.
Students left the session with a clear understanding of the finance industry and gained practical advice for navigating their academic and professional journeys.
Macleans College thanks Meysum for his time and thoughtful presentation and wishes him continued success in his career.
